After College

Image
After college, my workout plans tend to change, but only a little bit. Right now, while I am able to I like to be strong and powerful but wellness is very important to me. As I come closer to graduation, I am looking for more yoga classes. I want to keep resistance training but I would love to add yoga to my normal workouts. I believe yoga holds so many benefits that are beneficial to my overall health. Yoga, most importantly, teaches how to breath. I know how to breath for resistance training and basic mindfulness activities but I want to become more advanced. I want to be able to try many types of yoga. I like to study women who do yoga as they age and they are all well poised, strong, flexible, and calm women. This is the woman I would like to develop into and become. My fitness journey is far from over but I am happy to continue. As far as continuing life time activities right now, I just going to keep fishing.

Cheerleading

Cheerleading has always been a huge part of my life. I have cheered since I was 6 years old. I did school cheerleading from K-12. 9-12 grade was WPIAL cheerleading which means that it was a sideline and competition team. While I did this, I was also on an allstar team from 9th-12th grade. I cheered for PA Storm Allstars which is a travel competition only team. My allstar team was the best experience of my life. However, as the team got better, even though I was on our level 5 team, our coaches became obsessed with going to Cheerleading Worlds and made me not love the sport anymore despite the insane amount of trophies and jackets I've received from winning National titles. I started coaching as a practicum my freshman year of college. I started developing WPIAL routines for Bishop Canevin High School coaching along side Tiffany O'Shea who has become my mentor. Every year we went to another cheerleading competition, I realized I still loved the sport and I miss it. So I starte...

Bodybuilding

I have competed in two bodybuilding shows in the bikini division. I have learned more about the human body and what it can do in these two competitions than I ever thought possible. My first show was the Slippery Rock University Mr/Ms SRU Bodybuilding show. I went though a 25 week show prep that I will never forget. I got in great physical shape and loved every minute of it. I took 2nd in the closed bikini and 1st in the open bikini division which seemed like the most rewarding part of competing. Doing shows is both physically and mentally tasking. The show prep itself is only really hard because of the mental part of it. Every day I had to be stronger than the next to constantly get up and do what I had to do regardless of how tired I was. I had to tell myself every day that I cannot eat something that I wanted because what I do now affects my goals. I had to tell myself every day that it got hard, that I can be better, and I got better. Without doing the shows I did, I would not be a...

My Fitness Journey

Image
Many people who know me know that I enjoy being in the gym and always stop to ask me a multitude of questions about the gym and working out. My love for lifting started when I was a senior in high school. I ran track and competed on two cheerleading teams, which means I had to always be in top physical shape to keep up with 3 year around sports. Our high school sports trainer was a power lifting Olympian and taught me a lot of what I know. I always worked harder during our team training times in the weight room than anyone else did because I loved being stronger, better, and faster than I was the day before. I was never good at playing team sports that involved a ball but I loved building my body better than I could be before. Which brought me to the Bodybuilding and Fitness Club after high school. In my next blog, I'll explain how bodybuilding changed my view on fitness as a whole.
